Paprikas chicken - Hungarian traditional food

The Paprika Chicken (Paprikás Csirke in Hungarian) is typical for Hungarian cuisine and one of the most famous Hungarian recipe (the Gulyas soup is the most famous Hungarian dish) and it is easy to understand why.

Traditional Hungarian food is not that advanced as it might look at first sight and this traditional Hungarian chicken recipe is simply delicious!

  • 1 chicken
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 2 tsp Hungarian paprika (mild or halfsweet)
  • 1 green pepper
  • 2 tbsp shortening, lard/oil
  • 1 tsp floor
  • 1 big tomatoe
  • 2-2½ cup sour cream

Chop up the chicken and the onions. Heat the oil/laird and brown the onion. Add the chicken and brown for 10 min, then add the seasonings and sprinkle the paprika over it all. Add some salt and pepper. Use some water if needed and let it simmer until its tender.

When the chicken is ready you prepare the sour cream. Add som milk and flour to the sour cream and mix. Then add the mix to the chicken and let it simmer for another 5 minutes. Serve it with dumplings (or just cook some pasta) and a green sallad.
